Dear Parents,
As part of our social studies curriculum, students are asked
to learn about themselves so that they can compare and contrast their
experiences with each other and those of children in other communities in
Canada and other countries. We began our
inquiry by getting them to brainstorm some questions about their younger selves
and sending them home to you in a letter on October 18th.
Today I got two letters back, which we shared with the class. Thank you to Gian and Luke's parents for helping us share!
For the next part of this unit, I’m asking students to complete a timeline of their lives.
Important events to include might be when
your family moved, the addition of siblings, or even a pet to your family. Adding details like what their
favourite toys, books or shows were at different points in their development
might also help spur discussion of how they have grown and changed.
I’m asking that students try to complete at least 6 events in their lives and
put them together in a visual display of
some kind to present to the class. Pictures
and family photos are encouraged. Marks will be based on their ability to
communicate their experiences, articulate their own development, and their
ability to talk about differences and similarities to other children.
Due date and presentations begin on November 2nd.
Thank you for
supporting your child’s learning. As always, please contact me with any questions.
I've appended a couple of examples of grade one timelines from the internet.
Regards,
Lisa Goegan
